The Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band was formed in 1969 after Duane and Gregg returned to Florida from Los Angeles. The original band consisted of Duane Allman (guitar), Gregg Allman (keyboard/vocals), Dickey Betts (guitar/vocals), Berry Oakley (bass), “Jaimoe” Johanson (drums) and Butch Trucks (drums).

The band adopted Macon, Georgia, as their home town and signed with Phil Walden’s Capricorn label.

The Brothers’ first three albums were highly successful and helped establish them as the premier southern rock band. Tragically, founding members Duane and Berry were killed in motorcycle accidents in the early seventies.

Duane and Berry were replaced by Chuck Leavall (keyboards) and Lamar Williams (bass). In the early seventies, Dickey Betts wrote the highly successful song “Ramblin’ Man” which reached #2 on the Billboard charts.

The band has maintained its status with such highly respected musicians as Dan Toler (guitar), David Goldflies (bass), Warren Haynes (guitar), Allen Woody (bass), and Derek Trucks (guitar and nephew of drummer Butch Trucks).

Despite numerous personnel changes, the band continues to record and tour to this day.
